The primary cause of obesity is excessive caloric intake with too little exercise. Dietary-induced obesity in mice usually involves a high-fat diet and is translatable to the human population. Dietary-induced obese mice are well-established animal models of obesity. Male C57BL/6 mice 9 weeks old, are fed on 60% kcal high fat irradiated diet for 8 weeks. Control males are housed in the same location and are fed with Standard chow.
