For the development of animal models of periodontitis, a method of ligation of the second maxillary molar tooth has been used which allows to identify the most appropriate sites to evaluate inflammatory bone loss in a valid and reproducible manner. This model is used to evaluate the host response and its effects on the gingiva and bone under well-controlled conditions
STUDY ENDPOINT
MPO levels
Cytokine analysis and other inflammatory markers (TNFa, IL-1b, SAA, KC)
Blood collections and analysis
Stool collections for Next-Generation DNA Sequencing technology (NGS) analysis of microbiota
Tissue collections
Histopathologic analysis
VALIDATION DATA
Ligated side
Unligated side
Representative images of maxillae exhibiting bone loss. The arrow indicates the retraction of the alveolar bone.
Kinetic of total Bone Loss in ligated buccal side vs controlateralunligated side at 14 days after the placement of ligatures on the left maxillary molars in mice.
